As usual, the negative responses are from people who don’t know any trans people. Fear of the unknown is powerful. How to ease this fear is a quandary, considering the current political climate. Coming out as a trans person, whether the person “passes” or not, is more dangerous than it was a scant 6 years ago. Unfortunately, the best answer is for more cis people to know trans people, and these days if trans person is stealth they will probably be unwilling to come out. And, the most bigoted are comfortable with their bigotry, and are not likely to be swayed to investigate further.

As for the woman being misgendered in the video, I have heard different perspectives from my trans friends. On the one hand, she had every right to be angry at the clerk, whether he was nervous or not. He could hear her correction, I am sure. On the other hand, any trans woman who reacts very physically to misgendering is seen by some cis people as evidence that she is still a man. I do not have an answer to this, except to pray that in the end love will win.
