My father used to say “he knows just enough to be dangerous”. No cis person can understand transition, or the need for it, but we can learn, and offer support. It is 2020!

Several of your (common) commenters are using information that is way out of date, and they are doing it because it supports their position. Research from this century (!!!) increasingly shows the existence, validity, and needs of transgender people, including biology (real SCIENCE!). They need understanding, acceptance and support.

I would also say it is doubtful any of the negative commenters are friends with a trans person, or have even (knowingly) met one. This is not easy for several reasons not important to list here, but in the meantime they can do some reading: actual stories from and about trans people. Start with “She’s Not There” by Jennifer Boylan, then “Finding Nicole”, about the struggles a family goes through when they have a trans child. More and more is being written by trans people and this is where we should look.

Transphobia comes in many shapes. I would hope there is no one among the commenters who would approve of a person being murdered just because of who he or she is. This has happened throughout history, but that doesn’t mean it should be continued. And this is happening to LGBT people around the world.

A more subtle transphobe, perhaps one who has had an education, can couch their transphobia in fancy language to disguise it. I am not going to comment on your commenters, except to say their ignorance is on full display.

To them I say: join us in 2020; if you acquire an open mind you may live longer, because you can reduce your hate and bigotry, both of which are corrosive. Love is better! Trans people are people!
